The Eagle Theater, once a vibrant landmark in Spanish Harlem, lay empty and un-used for decades. After a renovation filled with surprises, it re-opened its doors to the community as the Flagship store and event space for the streetwear retailer Kicks USA (since re-branded as Snipes).
The playgrounds and urban environment of the neighborhood were an important source of inspiration for the design, as well as theatrical lighting reminiscent of the building's former life. Upon opening, local residents shared stories of first dates in the former theater and how happy they were to get back into this story-filled space.
